Relationship With Horizon

Q: What is the relationship between Kairos and Horizon?

In 2000, a group of Kairos volunteers and leaders became convinced that taking faith based ministry into prison dorms would be a logical extension of their work with Kairos. A program was developed, and named Horizon Communities. The program, as envisioned, required physical changes in the prison dormitory and two (2) paid staff positions for each prison. These included an inside coordinator to work with the residents, and an outside coordinator to recruit and train volunteers. Also required were funds for a national ministry administrative office. Because of these financial obligations, Horizon formed their own 501 (c) (3) corporation, Horizon Communities Corporation, and selected their own board of directors to make them a separate and independent ministry. As such, Kairos Prison Ministry International, Inc. has no control or influence over their activities. In order to eliminate confusion of identities, the Kairos International Board of Directors has requested Horizon Communities Corporation to stop using the Kairos name. Kairos Prison Ministry appreciates the positive work Horizon Communities Corporation is doing.
